MPA-1212
Miniature ASI MPEG-2 Null Packet Filter

WooshCom’s MPEG Null Packet Filter reduces the deluge of data that is produced from some single program transport stream (SPTS) satellite receivers down to just the data of the selected program.   Some SPTS receivers bury the selected video steam, which may be as little as 4Mbps,  in a flood of output data that is running at rates of 54 Mbps or 155 Mbps.  The extra data packets are usually MPEG Null packets.

This can create a tremendous burden on downstream equipment which must ingest this full flood of data.  While many pieces of headend equipment, like MPEG re-multiplexers, appear to handle the extra data, there are others that have ingest rate limits that cannot be exceeded.

If this data stream is directly converted to IP and then transmitted onto a data network these unnecessary data packets will needlessly consume network bandwidth and perhaps unnecessarily drive up leased fiber line capacity requirements.   This would result in recurring monthly lease expenses that are needlessly high.

WOOSHCOM’S MPA-1212 ASI MPEG-2 Transport stream NULL packet filter provides great flexibility in the control of NULL packets in the transport stream. The device has one ASI input, (with an associated loop-thru output) and two main mirrored ASI outputs which provide the filtered output transport stream.

This MPA-1212 optimizes the use of bandwidth on an ASI connection by reducing the number of MPEG NULL packets on its outputs down to the bare minimum. When the fixed rate output option is selected, one of 126 pre-designated output rates can be selected by the user in order to produce a constant rate output transport stream even if the video content is variable bit rate in nature. There are also options to strip out all NULL packets and to allow all the incoming transport stream packets (including NULLs) to flow thru the device.

Some of its benefits:

bulletReduce processing burden on headend equipment - thereby decrease likelihood of overload and a crash
bulletFree-up CPU power in re-multiplexers for critical tasks
bulletEnable ingest-limited MPEG re-multiplexers  to process more inputs from more Satellite receivers
bulletReduce the workload on all IP Networking equipment
bulletReduce capacity requirements of fiber interconnects and potentially reduce capacity to be leased
bulletScalable - deploy one at a time
bulletEasy sparing - true low cost n+1 sparing
